No Love in an Elevator

Sorry for the short hiatus in posting, folks....

(cue Maxwell Smart voice) would you believe, I was trapped in an elevator waiting for the technicians to get the doors unstuck and me back safely on terra firma. (uncue voice)

Actually, i was just traveling to Japan and Hong Kong and am now back in Sydney and will begin catching up with all of the easy pickings that came out of the ISDC. Man am I sorry i missed that!

(apologies to aerosmith for the title of this posting)

We need to differentiate between alt.space launch companies and other alt.space companies such as Ecliptic that have successfully defined niches in which to operate.

The problem with this is that there are plenty of Kool-Aid based firms that aren't launch companies, such as:
* Space Solar Power
* Space Elevators
* L5 colonies
* Lunar mining
* Asteroid mining

and the list goes on....

I think we should leave alt.space as a catch-all label, and use the term real.space for companies that aren't kool-aid flavoured...

You know .. once you drink the space elevator Kool-Aid it all looks so much better ... so they tell me.

I work at Liftport. I'm enthusiastic. But you won't find a group of people more realistic about space elevators than the people working to make them happen. We're not sure a space elevator _can_ be built. We'll know more in a few years.
